Christ Church Fairmont is a family parish with a rich history whose members are loyal and spiritually strong.   The church is a large, older building with character and characters!  The character of the parish includes respect for one another, family focus, rich music, and outreach.

Our Episcopal congregation in Fairmont dates from the early 1850’s.  In 1952 services were held at the parish’s first formal location on Washington Street in Fairmont.  A cornerstone was laid for a parish house at our present site in 1926, and, and the parish house served as the foundation for the current church, which was consecrated in 1956.  A Lady Altar and bell, rescued from the church’s former location on Washington Street, are important features of our church today.  The Reverend Robert P. Atkinson, who was rector when the church was consecrated in 1956, later became Bishop of the Diocese of West Virginia.  Also, the Reverend Richard H., Schmidt, rector from 1975-1982, is now the editor of Forward Movement Publications of the Episcopal Church.  Our parish lists 153 communicants in 69 households with an average Sunday attendance of 57.  Sunday services are generally Rite II at 10:30 A.M.
